  I agree with John that speaking with a local shaper is your best option. Still, I'll try to be somewhat helpful here. I have one piece of advice. Ignore what you're reading about the trend to go shorter and wider. A lot of pro surfers are going down this path, but only a freak like Slater could win the Pipeline Masters on a 5'11". I mean, he's just ridiculous. Don't be afraid to go a little bigger than you think is necessary. You'll have much more fun if you do.
