Best beaches to surf on EAST Coast?

  Welcome to the curse that is being an east coast surfer. Flap summers and freezing winters with a little golden window in the fall where the water is still reasonably warm and the hurricane swells come in. Anyway seeing as you are just starting out and have never surfed before this is what you do. Pick a place on the East Coast that is closes to you: ME, NH, MA, NY, NJ (Im assuming you live up North?) all have places you can surf. Then google up surf shop in your closest state and find the one closest to you. Then call and ask if they provide lessons, if they do not see if they can direct you to someplace in the area that does. Lessons with an instructor or experienced friend are far and away the best way to experience surfing. They will guide you through the basics and you will have a much better chance of standing up on your own the first time you go out. Plus they will help to keep you safe and make sure you dont float into a situation you cant handle. Good luck and have fun! Keep in mind that getting hooked to surfing the cold North can be a torturous ordeal ; )
