Texas is not as well blessed with public lands where you can do whatever you want. National forests have what's called dispersed camping where you hike or drive in pick a spot and camp that's about as close to being undisturbed as possible but you won't have any creature comforts so go prepared for the worst. Be careful ifn you hear banjo music it's best to get outta there butt quick.
