Question about Yosemite- Upper Pines?

North pines, yosemite camping question?

  • Is it only for RV's and cars with trailers? or can you go up in your car and simply use a tent? I've only been to wawona so not sure about this one.

    When you call for a reservation you can check or go to the Yosemite web site. I believe tent "camping" is allowed if you can call it that, wedged in between motorhomes with their generators running. The campsites are very small and crowded.

The cluster of campgrounds in the valley are considered "car campgrounds." They are perfect for car camping and ideal for RVs, but I wouldn't really use a tent. The valley can get smoggy and smokey if a control burn is in session (or, God forbid, a real fire). They are very exposed. However, despite all of the information against going camping in a tent with your car, you can still do it. It's not illegal. However, check out Bridal Veil Creek, Crane Flat, and White Wolf.
