this site would seem to think otherwise and it looks to cater to family style holidays as well as those whoe want privacy and seclusion but thats up to you. With all the mountains in NewEngland I find it hard to beleive even the most hardy camper couldnt find something challenging. If you want the full camping experience though come up to Canada and try ALGONQUIN NATIONALPARK http://www.explorenewengland.com/travel?state_name=vermont

With regard to Hulio, the Appalachian Trail does not begin in New York City -- it has trail heads in Georgia and Maine. It does pass through Bear Mountain, NY, though, and I'd suggest starting there and backpacking through to the Delaware Water Gap in New Jersey. You can do this in about 8-10 days, staying at a different place each night. If you don't want to backpack, try Triplebrook Campground in Hope, NJ or the Delaware Family Campground in Belvidere, NJ. Also a great spot is Worthington State Forest in New Jersey. All three of these campgrounds are on or close to the Delaware River.

Try the Appalachian Trail Walk. It starts off at NYC and it's ten days long. You'll have plenty of camp time and lots of hiking through the Appalachians.

Normany Farms in MA is fun for a family that isn't in to roughing it to much. Couple pools and activities available, plus not too far from civilization. Branch Brook in NH (Camden) is great, they have some camper sites on a river as well as some nice primitive sites on another stretch of the river!

Try KOA Campgrounds! There are several throughout the United States. They are lovely and attractive places, some with lots of amenities such as cabins to rent, electric hook-ups, Showers, etc. Best yet...have fun and enjoy the out doors! http://www.koakampgrounds.com/
