Pre-teens going camping?Ideas?

camp around a lake or even better a stream big enough for canoes (rafts are big enough for the whole family but what 12 year old wants to be stuck in a small area with her family) or Kayaks. let them wander off in their own canoe or have mom & pop pick them up downstream. most rec areas have canoe, raft & kayak rentals. in 1982 my 19 yr old brother & cousin visited me in Jackson, Wyo. i put the canoe in the Snake River and when they got in i pushed the canoe out and told them i would pick them up under the 2nd bridge they would come to. it was an adventure they still talk about today- had i accompanied them it would have been another boring trip. don't do anything they can do at home ... and challange them/trust them.
