    these people have good answers. get a job at a shop. get some videos for your parents to watch that promotes riding, like how to ride, and safety videos. practice turning wheeling and small jumping on your bmx bike in the mean time. Show your parents how good you are at safely riding a bike (don't show them your crazy stunts though) lifting weights will help you when it comes time to riding, want to be strong. and do good in school because kids who don't parents never want to let them ride. Depending if you are in high school yet or not it really will help you to take a shop class and learn how to use tools cause dirt bikes are constant maintenece to keep them working properly, which is part of the fun. if you can't do basic repairs on your bike and know how to shop around for proper tools and parts you might as well not own one. but don't worry you learn as you go. with the internet you can always view how to videos. check thumpertalk.com, you can learn a lot from what real riders do and ask them questions also. good luck and be patient.

First of all you need to practice for a year to ride motocross and become physically fit and have good cardio. Second I think girls can ride just as good as guys. 3rd go to some motocross training schools at your local track you can get info at your closest motosports/recreational shop. To convince them id just repaetedly talk about motocross and dirtbikes and eventually if you annoy the hell outta them they will give in and say its what you want to do and its your life thats how I got into the sport.
