What is a good learner's motorbike?

In Australia, are learner motorbike riders allowed to ride any motorbike?

  • I want to buy a motorbike but I don't have my learners for motorbikes yet and I was wondering if there were any rules of what motorbikes learners are allowed to ride on the road ...show more

  • Answer:

No they have to have a Certain power to weight ratio. After you are on your p's you can get a different bike because they have another power to weight ratio.

To get the exact facts phone your local RTA oceffice (Road Transport Authority) and they will give you all that information over the phone. They are listed in the front of your phone book under 'State Government'. There are limits as to the size of bike for learners and for the first year of your liceince. The rules are there for your safety so you might think they are stupid but in the past a learner could buy a 1000cc Super Bike having never even sat on a bike before, and that was more stupid than the rules in place now. Hope that has helped....
