What is the difference between method and function in Scala?

Signal Processing: Is there a difference between the image kernel and point spread function when talking about deconvolution?

  • When you use the deconvolution method to make the blurry image sharper, you will have to estimate the point spread function. Is there a difference between this PSF and an image kernel?

  • Answer:

Yes they are pretty much the same. Suppose your image is a 16x16 pixel matrix. Not necessary for this answer but just to have an idea. The PSF, h(x,\alpha ,y,\beta ) gives the weight with which the pixel value at an input position, (x, y) like (1,1) contributes to an output position, (\alpha , \beta ) like (1,1). The output position might not the same though. The output, g(\alpha , \beta ) of applying the PSF to the input image f(x, y), can be given by - g(\alpha, \beta) = \sum_{x = 1}^{N}\sum_{y = 1}^{N}f(x, y)h(\alpha - x, \beta - y) If you define a particular sub-matrix such that each index of that matrix is a specific weight, as per a PSF, that you intend to apply, you will get an image-kernel. So, the image kernel is a form of the PSF as per me. I hope that clears it? Also, if you find a mistake or anything that you wish to add please let me know. I have only studied about Image Kernels in particular and came across PSFs after this question. So I am open for discussion and improvements
