If you own the original Rock Band guitar or the Guitar Hero Explorer for GH2 XBox 360, it's mostly likely for sure that it will work on Rock Band 2, since Harmonix, the creators of the original Guitar Hero series and Rock Band, is involved with this. Activision, which is overseeing Guitar Hero World Tour, has stated that the original Rock Band guitar and other third party controller will work in GH World Tour, but were speaking in terms of XBox 360 and not mentioning the new guitar in Rock Band 2. Activision (Guitar Hero) and EA/Harmonix (Rock Band) has been at war over instrument compatibility since Harmonix was forced out of Guitar Hero by Activision in favor of Neversoft (the creator of the Tony Hawk series). Both companies claim to have patches that either guitar would work on both games (GH3 and Rock Band) but blame each other for not cooperating (Harmonix blame Activision for terminating their patch while Activision blame them for not getting compensation for the work on the patch). Whatever it is, it seems like there trying to kiss and make up.

Rock Band 2 is being made by Harmonix Music Systems while Guitar Hero World tour is being made by Activision. They are competing companies so I highly doubt any compatibility. Also the Guitar Hero World Tour has a different set up for the drums than the Rock Band drums.

The instruments are confirmed to work with Rock Band 2, however there has been no confirmation that they will work with GH4. My guess is no, since they dont work with GH3.
