    Yes, it is backwards compatable with GameBoy Advance games. There is a slot on the bottom for them. DS games go in the top, they're really small and look sorta like a microchip. The DS would be a great choice for her, it has a much wider variety of games for all ages and genders. If she likes her GameBoy Advance or SP, which ever she has, she'll love a DS Lite.

Yes, it plays them. Problem is, they'll stick out about 1cm from the base. So if that cosmetic inconvenience doesn't bother her, I say go for it. Nintendogs would be a good game for her if she likes dogs(its a dog raising sim).

Yes - The Nintendo DS Lite does play Gameboy Advance Games. I own a PSP and I must admit that the games for the PSP do appear to be more 'for the boys'.
