Why isn't religion considered as a form of art?

  • Let me put it this way, Religion according to wiki: The non-motivated purposes of art: Basic human instinct for harmony, balance, rhythm. Experience of the mysterious. Expression of the imagination. Ritualistic and symbolic functions Motivated functions of art: Communication Art as entertainment The Avante-Garde. Art for political change Art for psychological and healing purposes Art for social inquiry, subversion and/or anarchy. Art for social causes.. Art for propaganda, or commercialism Art as a fitness indicator. So what makes religion different from art?

    It shouldn't be. It fits best into philosophy if anything, though we keep it out of that category because its quite distinct. Plus, religions that are later found ridiculous become mythology, which is more literature and lessons than anything.

Probably because art was never forced down people's throats. Probably because not following the "rules" of art never led to a person being condemned to death. And then being killed. Probably because art does not divide people, it usually brings them closer.

it should be. here is another striking similarity - gifted artists see visions or hear voices and so do the religious prophets or common believers.
