They did grow some food for subsistence, but many tribes were more hunter-gatherers and moved their villages according to seasons, and animal's migration cycles. Even tribes who were not still hunted, fished, trapped, etc.. as a facet of being "hunter-gatherers" . Did they make a significant impact on the world ?? No, there were not enough of them and they were not concentrated in large population centers.
