What does consumer behavior mean?

Media Research: What consumer behavior do news companies need to understand the most?

  • There is a ton of research on consumer media behavior out there today.  How people use mobile devices, how the consume news on tablets, how they share information on social media, what demographic segment is most likely to view long-form videos, etc.  Are we missing some fundamental insights on consumer behavior today that will help media organizations create better strategies for serving news consumers?  For example, are consumers who primarily use social media for news consumption as informed/better informed/less informed than those who rely primarily on traditional media?

  • Answer:

In Canada, Numeris does the Media Technology Monitor survery about variety of things like people time spent online, smart phone penetration, etc. Part of that study includes how people consume news like from TV, radio, online, magazine or news paper. Since regular media research is mostly used for Ad sales, most of the research is based on the demo than how they consume news.
