    Making Hydrogen from Water is Very Inefficient so it is not done as a commercial endeavor. Most of the Hydrogen produced today is very costly and is derived from petroleum base stocks. It is far more expensive and less efficient than gasoline when it comes to the power derived from the resulting fuel. Then there is the problem of handling hydrogen. The result: Dangerous and expensive. Not piratical yet. I do hope those with the scientific skills and engineering abilities to do so keep working on the problems. It would be nice to power everything with hydrogen, but it is very unlikely that will happen soon.

Because storing Hydrogen is a PITA. It's explosive, it tends to leak, and needs to be highly pressurized. Also a gallon of hydrogen is not directly comparable to a gallon of gasoline, you need to use GGE.

This is the whole idea behind HOH or water for gas. Hydrogen can be made from water, so it should be the same price as water, abotu .99 cents a gallon.
