How can I put pictures in Wikipedia?

  • Answer:

I assume you have an account and that it is at least 4 days old and you have made at least 10 edits. If not, register an account and make a few edits. Only users with established accounts can upload images. Upload your image. You image needs to be available for use on Wikipedia; generally, that means you took it yourself or it is in the public domain. There is a link "Upload file". click on that; it will take you to "Wikipedia:Upload". Follow the directions and upload your image. Give it a meaningful name: not 98765443XVF.jpg, but SunsetMalibu.jpg, so a person viewing the name of the image has some clue as to what it portrays. Edit the Wikipedia page where you want to display the image, perhaps "Sunset". At an appropriate location on the page, put the following coding: [[Image:SunsetMalibu.jpg|thumb| 300px|The sun setting over the Pacific Ocean viewed from Malibu]]. (The vertical line is NOT an L but a vertical bar "|", sometimes called a "pipe"). There is a lot more to it than that, but that should get you started, see Help:Images and other uploaded files for more.
