How can I make a CV in pdf format?

Do you ever send your CV/Resume as a PDF?

  • If you do, do you choose to send the CV/Resume as PDF only or do you send the CV/Resume and Cover Letter in PDF format? I wonder if a CV sent as .docx for example always shows how you hope at the other end, when read by the employer or agency.

  • Answer:

If you do, 9 times out of 10 I can assure you the recruiter will use a tool to convert it back to Word format. Whilst I'm a huge fan of using PDF as a final format for distribution, it seems that this is one niche where Word still wins out. The recruiter for example might like to tweak something in your resume for a particular employer they're presenting you to, for example.

Any clients I send a resume to are usually converted to PDF so that they contain my company letterhead. People send me their resumes in PDFs pretty commonly, though the default appears to be Word. But I just use Adobe Acrobat to include my logo, which is ridiculously more efficient than converting to Word. As an aside, I'm really surprised how many recruiters "cheap out" on getting Adobe. If you factor in the time to upload, download, reformat and proof the inevitably messed up (though free) PDF-to-Word conversion, the cost savings is achieved in the first month.
