There is quite an easy way that worked for me, a computer illiterate. Download and install Googe Input Tools. Select Hindi. It will load Hindi fonts and Hindi dictionary. You will have EN for English and HI for Hindi to choose from at the bottom right hand corner of your desktop near the clock. You can type not only in Facebook, you can type every where on the computer in Hindi also. To get अम्मा on the screen you have to type ammaa in English using your regular keyboard.

select unicode and add keyboard layout from language setting which is in control panel.
