What are the flaws of the NES game Deadly Towers?

  It's far from the worst game on that platform. But why is it called the worst? There are two reasons. The second kind of depends upon the first, in my opinion. First, Deadly Towers's North American release came very early in the NES's lifecycle here. It was released in September 1987, just a few weeks after Zelda. Zelda was a massive hit, and Rygar and Deadly Towers were pretty much the only other sword-and-sorcery action RPGs on the market. In fact, there weren't very many console-tailored action games for the NES at all at that point. In mid-1987, roughly 80% of NES games available were arcade ports (or ersatz arcade games like Balloon Fight or Ice Climber). In September 1987, if you wanted a deeper experience like Super Mario Bros., your options were Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Rygar, Castlevania, Mighty Bomb Jack and... Deadly Towers. That situation improved by the holiday season, but only slightly. The result of all this is that a lot of kids were playing Deadly Towers in in late 1987, early 1988, when Nintendo mania was finally taking off. If you didn't own this game, you rented it or borrowed it from a friend. It was ubiquitous. And it had really cool box art, so you wanted to play it. Deadly Towers was a bit more difficult compared to most of the games mentioned above, and certainly nowhere near the quality of Legend of Zelda, in either design or execution. Deadly Towers's reputation as "the worst" boils down to a huge number of young players with high expectations and very frustrating experiences. Second, in 2001, popular internet satirist Seanbaby named Deadly Towers the Worst NES Game Ever. Again, the game was not really bad, just really disappointing to a lot of second graders. Seanbaby was of that generation and speaking to people his age, hence, "Worst Ever."
