    hey, if the MSN 9.0 you just downloaded is the NEW NEW one..that msn does NOT have the function of having colour. One way to check if you're not sure is to click on your name ..at the top of the MSN thing..and click OPTIONS..beside where you can change your name..it should say FORMAT CODES... if it says that...[ you DO Have the msn that can change the colours] you can click on it..and a bunch of colours will appear..you can choose there... If it dosent say that..you need to download another version of Messenger.. Good Luck

messanger plus does that, and even though it doesnt change the colour/boldness etc of the personal message, you can still type in the code and it will show up on the contact list. you get used to the codes after a while. (:
