I emailed Messenger Abuse Support last night about this. According to Microsoft the message was from them and was sent in error. It seems to be a repeat of an error from a couple of years ago and I suspect it's probably a glitch linked to the release of the new version of messenger which is frankly hideous and I wish I'd never updated. Anyway this is the reply I received from miscosoft: Hi, Thank you for contacting Windows Live Messenger Abuse Support. My name is Richard and I'll be assisting you today. We are aware that some Windows Live Messenger users received an instant message from the "Windows Live Messenger Service Staff" account today. The notice asked customers to change their email address in order to continue using Windows Live Messenger. The notice was made in error. Consumers should ignore the message and not change their Windows Live email address. Microsoft apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are diligently working towards resolving this error. Thank you for contacting Windows Live Messenger Abuse Support. Have a great day. Richard Windows Live Messenger Abuse Support

I got the same message.WLM signed me out,and when I tried signing back in,I got that message as well. I won't click the link, tho,as it sounds virus-y,like someone posing as the WLM team. This is definitely some sort of scam,as you can still send messages even when it will not let you sign in,and you still see when a friend signs in.

oh my gosh i got the same notification when i signed on today. i just read all the other answers to your question and now i'm not so sure about it. i did try to change mine a few minutes ago and it said i can't change it at this time...kinda weird. i have a feeling it might be real but i would like to know the answer to this too. p.s. if we really do need to change it, can someone please explain how i can get it to let me change it?

I just got the same message and I'm not sure what to think of it. I refuse to click on the link. I will wait for a while and see what happens. I would think that they would send us an email to notify us for this sort of thing.

it`s a scam......never, never click on a link, no matter who it is from.........instead, type the link into your browser and press the enter button and you will see that nothing happens if it is false.........it`s a trick from scammers to confirm your email address or get your email password.....

Many are wondering, and asking the same questions. You're not alone. As of right now I would suggest you not change anything until we get more information.

Everybody that has Hotmail account will get this message because of the worm (the conficker) that's going around. Microsoft is just concern about people who has Hotmail account.
