  If you have a website on fishing, and you have an article about how to catch fish - why would google show this site to people typing in "how to catch fish?" Well, first it looks for Keywords, "how to catch fish". But your right thats not enough, it will need to know that your site is a good site, and google does this by checking how many links are going to your website. So lets say NBC.com has an article on fishing, well google knows this is good because most likely there is 1,000's of links going to that site. But also its not just the number of links its the Page Rank status of each site linking to your site which makes your site better/worse. Lets say NBC.com is linking to your fishing article, well then you will be looked at as the authority site on fishing and when people type in "how to catch fish" You will get a mention. There is alot of other factors, Age of site, how often the site/article is updated ect. In a few hours type in google, "The way the search engine works" And I bet this post is Number 1, because google knows yahoo answers is an authority site for answering questions. Hope this helps!
