How do you become a snow groomer/piste basher/pisteur for a ski resort?

    Willie D is right on. A snow groomer is a heavy equipment operator. Running anything from a skidder to an excavator will give you some familiarity with the controls. Tilling or mowing farm fields can teach you how to work in a pattern to cover the whole area with a minimum of passes. Most groomers I know started working for the mountain as snowmakers or maintenance men. If you are a diesel or hydraulics mechanic any ski resort will hire you to maintain the equipment. It's a small step from fixing the equipment to operating it.

You need to contact all the individual resorts, its all about finding the right people, contact the resort and ask to talk to the personnell department and find out who manages recruitment and who manages the slopes/runs, prepare a good cv and just keep e-mailing, phoning and pestering. As long as you have what they are looking for you should have a chance
