How come with a snowboard if you grind a rail it doesn't scratch up the board?

Because the Rail is a smooth surface. Occasionally if you hit the rail or a box wrong then you can mess up ur board, but thats rare.

It does scratch up the board. In which case you go get a base grind or use a P-Tex candle to fill in the scrapes and holes. If you are riding jibs and your board isn't getting scratched then you probably don't have a lot of contact time. Typically, people who 50/50 everything won't see much of a difference. Try a board slide sometime, you might notice some scuffs. Happy shredding!

IF YOU GRIND IT, YOU USING THE EDGE OF YOUR BOARD, THE EDGE IS METAL, SO IT LAST LONGER, IF YOU SLIDE ON RAIL, YOU USE THE FLAT SURFACE OF YOUR BOARD AND THEN YOU GOT SOME DAMAGE...
