Hi Cati, If you can afford an instructor (even for group lessons), do not hesitate. You will learn more effectively than by trying to decipher yourself the basics of snowboarding. You will progress faster, and get solid foundations to ride any kind of snow. Turning toeside and heelside will not be a problem anymore after a couple of lessons. Yes, cannon snow is harder than regular snow, and does not have the same water content. It slides faster, too. Personally, my favorite snowboard spot is Steamboat Springs, CO. The snow there is just peachy. So much so they actually gave it a trademarked name "Champagne Powder". I also snowboarded at Grand Targhee, WY. Great people, good place. Not the same slope quality as in Steamboat, and the snow becomes sludge earlier in the season. But a very good choice of slopes anyway, and 20-30% less expensive than Steamboat. I wholeheartedly recommend Grand Targhee. This is a family-oriented resort, and I like them. I snowboard in China these days, and we only have fake snow, unfortunately. Still, a great pleasure to ride. It only gets a bit more technical than on regular snow. Do well!!

In order to ride better on your toe-edge you need to strengthen your calf muscles. It also helps to stretch before and durring the time on the mountain. Mt. Bachelor, Oregon is my favorite place to ride.

ask the rlly cute guy for lessons in grammar and toe edge

you might have too big of feet for your board and your toes might touch the snow when on your toeside, you can buy risers for your bindings which will help or change your stance so you are more duck footed (with your feet pointing in opposite direction) or just get a smaller width board
