Snowboard/Boots/Bindings recommendations?

  • So I've done some research on a few sites and have my choices narrowed down to these, based primarily on brand preferences and cheapest cost. Boots/Bindings from REI: ...show more

  • Answer:

Board: You should really look at getting something that has BTX on it. You can only get BTX technology from companies owned by quicksilver which are Lib-Tech, GNU, Roxy and Rossignol. Personally I would recommend the Roxy Ollie Pop. My sis and cousin both got that board this year based on my recommendation and they love it. If it is icy where you ride, then you need a board with magnetraction edges. It cuts through ice like a hot knife through butter. BTX means a board has banana camber with magnetraction edges (MTX). most companies now a days have reverse camber, but nobody has MTX. It makes a world of difference. I used to ride a burton custom and my first day riding a lib tech travis rice with BTX, I could feel it. so look for boards with BTX. They run a little bit more than the prices you have listed, but you will get what you are paying for and they will help you be a better rider. Most of the boards you have up there are mediocre at best. Dont listen to anything anyone says about boots. Just buy a pair that you find comfy. dont ever buy boots without trying them on first and walking around the store in them. Everyones feet are different and what works for one will not for another. spend as much time as you can buying boots and if it is one thing you are going to spend money on, it should be your boots. If you have a limited budget, I would ignore my board advice, but get a great pair of boots, because if your feet dont feel great, it doesnt matter how bomb your board is. I would advice you check out burton emerald boots. My gf has those and she swears by them. I ride the rulers which are the mens version of those boots and I have gone through 3 paris in the last 7 years with over a 100 days on each pair. These boots are super comfy and really easy to lace up. But again, check em out in a store first and try them on and walk around in them for a bit before you buy them. Bindings, dont really matter that much. All of them will do pretty much the same thing and some will be more comfortable than the others. My gf and sis both have burton lexa's and cousin has burton stilletos. They all work great. But if you want to save money, I would even go with a ride or union binding. Just buy the second cheapest model they sell. that way its not bad, and not too expensive.
