Can you snowboard at Mt. Hood in the summer without being in a camp?

Has anyone ever been to, or hear of mt. hood ski and snowboarding summer camp in oregon?

  • If known, what are the other campers like, as well as the atmosphere? How much fun are the activities?

  • Answer:

Go for it, this Mountain and Whistler Blackcomb are the top summer camps in North America. Timberline will attract the US National team, the Junior Team, several college race teams, and several private camps. Get up early, ski the glacier until the sun softens the courses too much for safe training. Then hike, swim and enjoy yourself. Carry a flashlight and a whistle at all times also a compass. Mt Hood is a large volcano that can have very changeable weather. You are about 150 miles east of the Pacific ocean, storms come in quick and leave just as fast. Come enjoy the camp, you'll learn a lot and have a great time.

Man that place is so great. Seriously. The other campers are really nice and its kind of a teach and get taught system. Other campers will always be pushing to go bigger. There is always instructors to help you out when you need it. The atmosphere is great. Everybody around there is nice and everything you do while your there is fun. I was there last summer but cant go this summer due to funding problems (just bought new car) but if you have the opprtunity to go I would definitly take it!

Mt. Hood has been putting on ski and snowboard camps since 1979. Not too sure about how fun they are or what the other campers are like, but skiers and snowboarders (despite the animosity) are usually fun people. I'd say check out the SouthShore Soldiers Camp at Heavenly though. You can learn snowboarding tricks and techniques from the pros, and it's a young, hip crowd of riders who are more than down to party!

it depends mostly on what u like riding. i mostly like powder and riding around so it wasn't amazing. it's great if u love park but the weather there is very confsuing. one day it can be really warm and sunny. the next freezing cold. also some days u can't even go out cause theres no visibility. when i went we could only snowboard 2 days out of the 6. the campers there r usually pretty nice. u'll become good friends with the people in ur room and snowboard group. it's always nice 2 find some1 that loves snowboarding as much as u do. now when it comes to camps there hcsc and windells. high cascade is in a town so u can walk around to different shops and stores, the down side is its spread out through out the whole town. it seems like they just rent out alot of cabins during the summer and use them. they have their "signature" sessions. but u never really talk to or hangout with the pros, barely ever c them either. about a 10 minutes ride to mountain. windells has their own private property. cabins. indoor skatepark and foam pit. pretty much everything. the people there r really nice and it's a lot smaller than hcsc. the ride 2 the mountain is about 45 minutes.
