It won't necessarily get ruined, but your base would be weaker and your snowboard won't be as fast. If you know how to wax it you should wax it on a moderately basis depending on how often you use it. If you go 2 weeks out of the year waxing it at least once will be fine. Tunning the edges however is recommended to be done by someone that has experience, the reason is because your snowboard has only one edge and there is no way to replace it if you damage it (at least not that I know of). But if you feel confident enough and want to tackle it just make sure to use light pressure. Tuning your edges should be done onec or twice a season depending on your riding style and the condition you ride on. On your case you might want to do it now and then forget about it for a while, until you feel your snowboard is losing traction on the turns and stops.

actually 2009 its not just a piece of wood. Theres fiberglass, different plastics, metals, etc. But thats besides the point. Honestly, you'll be fine. I'd recommend getting that waxed before you go out riding again though. The thing about wax is that not only does it make you go fast, it adds a little strength and protection to the bottom of the board. If I'm riding with a snowboard that I wax regularly and I hit a rock, it'll do less damage than if I was riding a board that's never been waxed. I usually wax my board about once every two or three weeks depending on how often I ride... But I try to ride as ofter as possible (at least three or four times a week) so the regularity will be different for everyone. If you aren't yet used to the difference in feel of riding between when your snowboard is and isn't waxed, check the bottom of it. As you ride a newly waxed board you'll be able to see some whitish lines develop down the edges of your board more and more. You usually want to avoid an extreme amount of this. hope this helps!

Nothing. Wax just makes you go faster. You don't need to wax a board. Its fine.
