What is the difference in the figure skates and hockey skates?

Figure skates and hockey skates backward crossovers?

  • what the difference between hockey skates backward crossovers and figure skates backward crossovers.

  • Answer:

so heres the DIFFERENCE, figure skates have a toe pick, hockey skates DON'T, so when figure skaters are going backwards they can easily stop by leaning forward on their toepicks and stopping, they also use the toepick in a backward crossover into a spin to slow themselves down to enter the spin, when they are doing crossovers the toepick may leave a trail behind in a 'S' formation depending if the skater is puttinf pressure on the toe. Now with hockey skates they don't have this, mostly because its more easier for them this way, there have been accidents where a skater has fallen over their toepick. Sometimes you will see on t.v. when skaters are doing crossovers their feet never leave the ice, just gliding over each one, but this hockey skates i don't believe they do this. Hockey players just lift their foot each time, but i'm not entirely sure, hope this helped!

well whenever i see hockey players doing crossovers they dont cross over that much and it almost looks like they are just walking. but when figure skaters cross they look like actual crossovers. or maybe its just the amature hockey players at my rink that dont know how to do crossovers haha
