Is speed important in figure skating and ice hockey?

I want to start playing ice hockey but i'm worried about telling my figure skating coach?

    go for it, it doesnt hurt to try and if you like it you can do both. honestly i think there is nothing better then expanding your horizons and worst comes to worst you dont like it and sell slightly used skates on ebay :)

Maybe try both if you can! I too have also heard that hockey helps figure skating reflexes and strength. Doing them both would be nice and you can get a little taste of both. If you only want to do hockey, talk to your parents, and coach. Tell him/her how you feel and that you've had thoughts about doing hockey again. Maybe keep your figure skates if you decide to go back after hockey season. Remember, do what you enjoy, don't mind what others think. Have fun! Good luck! :)

Actually ice hockey really helps your figure skating reflexes. I know a US national champion who did ice hockey and did say it helped. :)

If you haven't had a lesson in 6 weeks, I don't think your coach is worrying about what you are doing, he's probably written you off and will be surprised to see you back. If you want to play hockey, go play hockey. No need to explain yourself to anyone. If you have the time to do figure skating and still want to, then do both. I don't see a problem except with the amount of time you'll have to practice each and still get school work done.
