When to start ice dance?

I am a single ice skater in open pre juvenile and I'm thirteen. Is this a good age to start ice dance?

• I already know how to do progressives and swing rolls and cross rolls, and I've passed up to juvenile moves in field. I've wanted to ice dance for a while now.

  If you've wanted to for a while, go right ahead! Ask your coach if you can start working on dances- one of the beginning level dances is the Dutch Waltz which is just swing rolls, progressives and stroking. For dance though you need a perfect swing roll- on a deep edge, with toe turned out and pointed, and thighs together as the free leg passes through. So be prepared to be expected to perfect the dance elements you already know how to do. If you want to get really good and compete you might have trouble finding a partner, so be prepared for that. Boy dancers can pretty much pick from the fifty girls chasing them so you've gotta be the best. Ice dancing requires a lot more precision work than singles, so be prepared for long hours of perfecting the same moves over and over again. It's not like jumping where all you have to do is make it clean and high, lol. You might find that you don't like it as much as singles skating so don't throw a bunch of money into it right away.
