Ice skating: Double salchow tips?

The other answer covered most of it, but I have more to add. What helped me most was thinking about how its just an axel. The way you step up into the jump is exactly an axel. So think of it like that, think of the step up into an axel, and then do it. Also, before you try that, do a single salchow and think of it as a waltz jump, then try a double. If I fall on double salchows, its usually because I forget to let my right arm (counterclockwise skater) go up and through, so I also think 'arm' to myself right before I jump. We've given you a lot of tips, stuff you have to think about, but DON'T think through the jump too much, or you might screw up totally. So read this over, try to remember most of it, and try to do it. Also, one more thing. I'm not sure because you didn't say, but I'm guessing you haven't been landing your axel for all that long... If you've just landed your axel recently, don't expect to have your double salchow the next day. It took my friend nearly 2 years after she landed her axel to land a double salchow, whereas it took another of my friends less than 3 months (but she started working on double salchow before she even landed her axel). So don't get frustrated too much, and good luck!
