Try Italy - the cost of skiing is lower than France and the nightlife can be really good - bunch of first timers wanting nightlife try sauze-doulx AVOID cormeyeur as its not good for beginners and by Italian standards quite expensive. Sestriere is somewhere between the two. Or Andorra as this is also a top nightlife/low cost destination (you would be shocked at the price of a round of drinks in some parts of France) Bulgaria is another home of the cheap(er) ski holiday. I've put in a link to the telegraph Ski resort guides directory as you can get more info there than I can ever type here For best value avoid half term (Feb 19th -26th around me) you will pay 25-30% more in this week. PS I love Skiing in France and have booked for next year BUT its at the cost of nighlife (we buy beer/wine/pizza & drink/eat in room)

If you are thinking the US try Stowe in January or February Mid-week. Fly to Boston have some fun and drive up or take a bus up to Vermont, about 3.5 hours. Fun friendly town with good "hill"

Having gone on several college and post college spring break ski trips, I can tell you that finding an active night life in a ski town is hard to find. There aren't that many nightclubs that I have found. Mostly you will find bars. Where ever you go, ask as many locals as you can find to recommend a good place to hang out. Some may not recommend their favorites because they want to keep them "local", but if you ask enough people you will find a pretty good consensus. For the past couple of years, we have gone to Breckenridge, CO. It's a great little town with most of the lodging located within easy walking distance of Main Street. This is where most of the bars and restaurants are located. The base areas are very close to Main Street with lodging between the two. There are also some great bars at the bases for after ski get-togethers. We tend to stay in an area of town called "Four Seasons." These condos are not ski-in/ski-out, but they are within walking distance of Peak 9 base and Main Street. So you get most of the benefits of ski-in/ski-out condos without the price. This area also tends to have larger condos so if you go with a big group, you won't be tripping over everyone and their stuff.
