Is ski and snowboard wax the same?

I use ski wax all the time on my board. Basically what happened was when boarding got popular some jackass decided to take ski wax, repackage it so it said "snowboard" and jack up the price.

The waxes are the same for everyday skiing and snowboarding and regular maintenance of your skis/boards. Racers uses special more expensive wax and wax mixes for optimal performance for the snow temperature and conditions. Snowboard wax tends to be scented, but that is to attract the snowboards to buy it (just a marketing technique to sell more). Waxes differ for the temperature of the snow they will be used for. I use all temp because i only really care about keeping my skis healthy and I don't need them to be extra fast. All temp wax doesn't mean it is good for all temperatures. It is more in between coldest and warmest. Hot wax is the best wax. It lasts the longest and it keeps your skis and boards healthy. Gel, paste, rub on, and spray wax only really last a few runs and are for when you don't have time for a hot wax, and used in between hot waxings. I use snowboard wax for my skis because i got cheap on sale. If i was a racer, i would probably use better wax. In order to wax your skis or board you will need a waxing iron. Not a clothing with holes, but one for ski waxing. I have a dakine iron that i got at zumiez (skate/board shop) for $35. You should research how to wax your skis before you do it, or ask someone who knows how. I have some dakine rub on wax on my desk right now that looks like a stick of deodorant. I have never used gel wax, but you will probably have to buff it into the base like rub on and paste wax. You should wax your skis/board once every 4 to 7 times on the snow to keep it healthy.
