  If its still wrapped in plastic it should be fine for the first couple of days. You can give it a quick wax in November if you want but it isn't required. If you look at the base as the board dries out you will see it starting to turn slightly white and it wont have the greasy feel that freshly waxed boards have. Depending on conditions Wax should be applied every 3-15days (3 days if very very icy, 15 days if in perfect powder) in most cases every 7-10days is best, make sure you keep the edges sharp too. There are plenty of people up there on boards and skis that haven't seen any upkeep in several seasons. Best option of wax is Hot Wax with an iron, there are plenty of other options like sprays and creams but at best these are a quick fix that usually last a day or 2.
