  • Answer:

Wengen, Switzerland is where I would recommend you spend your holiday. This charming alpine village has become a popular tourist destination, and nearby Interlaken is quite a cute city to look around. By car, it is about 1 hr from the Bern airport, and about 2.5 hrs by train. It's about 2.5 hrs by car and 3 hrs by train from the Zurich airport. I recommend you take a car so that you may then tour around neighboring valleys and towns with greater ease. Interlaken is a very interesting city and is one of the oldest tourist desinations in Switzerland as well as Europe. To get to Wengen, you can either drive or take the train to Lauterbrunnen, which is nestled in the bottom of a deep valley, and where you must leave your car in a (very safe) parking structure. Then, you take a little train up to Wengen, which is perched on a cliff high above the valley with the Alps rising above it. There are countless little hotels, chalets, and apartements for rent in town. Once in Wengen, you can literally step out your door and step into your skis, since there are no cars in town and the ski lifts are right next to the Co-Op. The skiing is amazing, and as you may know Wengen has been the location of the famous annual Lauberhorn ski race since 1930. The Lauberhorn is the longest race in the FIS world cup circuit and is definitely the most scenic, in my opinion. As for sight-seeing, you can take a cog train up to the Jungfrau, the Top of Europe, which rises to 4158 m above sea level. Once up there, the view of the glacier and mountain range is absolutely breathtaking and there is much to do, including dogsled rides, snow hikes to nearby chalets, panoramic views, dining, cross country skiing, ice castles, and more.

Innsbruck - Austria - Great in the snow - many resorts nearby - easily accessible by mountain railway or bus. Just 2 days skiing - is it really worth it?

Go to Chamonix. It is close to Geneva (and the airport) which is a beautiful city to look round as well.

Italy is the best skiing destination! Arabba, San Candido or if you a cheap destination you can try with Alleghe and Falcade!

1st timers I would say Austria or Bulgaria resorts like Mayrhofen and soll in austria or pamporovo in Bulgaria are good. Thomson ski will also do you a good deal on a group ski break for 8 or more adults.
