What size skis should I get?

What size skis should I get?

  • I'm 5 foot 2 and about 84 pounds. I am an intermediate/advanced skier. What size skis should I get?

  • Answer:

Obsolete question. In the days of straight sticks made of wood, there was a direct connection between height and ski length. Now each maker has different geometry. Even within a single brand, skis are designed for different uses and your length will depend on Ht, Weight, Ability but also the brand and style of ski. I've skied over 45 years, and have been a working on the hill professional on the snow for over 20. I rely on dealer suggestions and demo any ski before I make a purchase. With the newer skies, a few cm too big or small can have a big influence on performance. Same with the rest of the package. Proper bindings, properly mounted. And matching the boot to the ski. Accounting for your foot angle and alignment...It is much more complex than screwing a binding to a stick and standing on it. Visit at least a couple true ski shops. If you go used or cheap discount department store, be sure you know the cost to mount the bindings. And if they do not at least measure you for foot alignment and level...odds are against you having a proper fit.
