What size giant slalom skis should i get?

• i'm 5'8, roughly 160lbs, and competitive alpine race and i want to know what size skis i should get for this coming season? i was thinking 176es?

  If you are racing sanctioned events, then you need to know what the specifications are for each event. Go to the FIS web site and read the rules about ski sizes for your classification and event. Most Slalom skis are 145 to 160 cm, GS about 155 to 165 cm, but this is from memory check the web site and do a lot of digging through the rules to find the ski specifications that include the length, turn radius which must be marked on the skis by the maker. Also the riser plates that are allowed and the maximum permitted. If you are in a race group or team, ask your coach. They are paid to know your ability and the rules for each event. For your event, I think a 176 is too long but it is up to you. Try to demo as many pair as you can before you buy. The fall race camps should have many pairs for trial. Mt Hood Oregon, Whistler BC. are just a couple of places. Have fun good turns and fast times. Personally I've used Head, Kneissl, Fischer, K2, Sohler, Atomic and Kastle and have won on a couple and placed further back on most, but I am cannon fodder.
