What are good exercises for running?

What are some good running exercises to improve your running time and make you faster?

  • can you give me some good exercises that can make me faster in a 5k and get me a better time and also describe them??

  • Answer:

Describing a 5k running schedule and training may be a bit much for a few paragraphs, but maybe I can point you in the right direction in terms of training. 5K races are the first of the distant events, so you can incorporate strength training into your weekly schedule. This is where racing becomes more and more aerobic (with oxygen). So you main stay of training will be running. Running comes in three flavors, LSD (long slow distance), Tempo, and strength. You can also incorporate cross training in such as weights and drills they do help even with longer running events. I recommend core strength areas (abs and back) as they are paramount to a good running posture. I use routines for cross training from Runners World Website. It has really helped this year as I recover from a pre-season back injury, which has taken 10 months to recover from and I am finally now training for a 5k event with eyes to 10K and a ½ next year. You can find these websites as a great resource for training these sites offer beginner to expert training schedules: www.coolrunning.com www.runnersworld.com www.jeffgalloway.com www.halhigdon.com www.runningroom.com

well, the first answer is very good but there are a lot more exercises that you can get a lot better from. speed workouts hill repeats long runs easy runs speed workouts i usually go to the track and do 800 repeats about 6 times but i do a 400m cool down after evry one. but you can also do 1500m repeats or 400m repeats. this should alwas be at your fatsest pace possible. what i do for hill runs is that i go to a trail that has a big hill and then i run up it about 5-10 times(depending on how long the hill is). after every one i have a 30 sec break. i dont do cool downs for hills but you can if you want. this is at your fastest pace possible. long runs are usually on the street for me and they are about 8-12 miles depending on how good of shape you are.this is at a slow pace. easy runs are around 4-7 miles on trails or the street. this is at a mid pace. hope this helps and if you have any trouble then go to runnersworld.com and then go to smart coach and they will give you a work out plan just for you. lay off the sodas too.
