Any tips for long distance running?

I'm running distance in track? just started this year and need tips?!?

  • ok so i just joined track this year and you have to pick at least 2 events so i'm doing high jump and distance running. well, i've already got the high jump pretty much ...show more

lol, those are my events too. I know this is kinda useless, since your coach is going to put you on the workouts, but do repeat 400s at your goal mile pace (about 6 to 8 of them). Give yourself 2 minutes recovery in between each. If you want to help with your kick, and race mentality, do 500m repeats, the last 100m kills. Do some distance runs, too. I don't know what skill level your at, but go for like a 6 mile run here and there to build endurance. Wall sits helped me with running hills in cross country, so try those, and ab workouts defenitly help. Push ups and pull ups help a little too. For eating, eat pasta the nite b4 a race, and remember, pace yourself.

Well, I ran the 400 back in 7th and 8th grade, and I'm actually planning on running track again next year, I miss passing out at the very end :P You need to run the mile. Run a mile. and, after you have run a mile, mine as well run another. And another. And another. Etc. Running = cardio excercise. EXCERCISE THAT HEART! Drink water. Don't eat a lot of junk food. And you need to be mentally prepared. If you quit things easily (I do :/) then you need to rethink the mile... the 400 has me thinking doubts near the end like "OH GAWD, WHY AM I DOING THIS TO MYSELF!?" Those are my suggestions.
