Is the language of advertising in general too deceptive, or does advertising language for the most part give?
-
give consumers a fair idea about the products?
-
Answer:
there is the truth in advertising law which states that products must perform as stated; however, since humans are very self-centered, advertising plays on people's egos. they make vague statements and the person assumes that the statement is aimed at them and that the product will fulfill the person's need. ie, toothpaste advertising, the person in the ad already has perfect teeth, is attractive and the attractive person that they are with implies that it was the toothpaste that achieved all that, mean while all the advertisement states is that the toothpaste cleans and whitens
