  • Answer:

I graduated with a Bachelors in Marketing, well, let's say a few years ago. At that point it was rare, and I believe this is still the case, to find a true marketing job (brand management) with a bachelors degree, although the likelihood improves the smaller the company. I found many opportunities in Sales though. And many of my peers had opportunities with advertising agencies. If you are interested in Marketing long term, either path, sales or agency, could lead you to a marketing position. In my own case, I stayed in sales for 5 years and then went back to school to earn my MBA in Marketing and Business Strategy. Then, I found my first true marketing job.

My first peice of advice is to get an internship at all cost bcause this will give you a foot up in this economy. Tip on getting an internship, be persistent if you find a company that works for you. And also, take it even if it doesn't pay. It will pay off in the future. The marketing field is very competitive and the most opportuntites will be near and in big cities. I don't know what the economy will look like once you graduate, but just stay positive and start to figure out what job you really want to do. If you already have an idea of what job you want to do, you've already beat half of recent and soon to be college graduates. And trust me, coming from a Dec. 2008 graduate who is still in the dark. Thats a great start regardless of where the economy stands. Oh! And marketing is very diverse and can take you through several different postion genres. Don't worry so much about what you can do with a degree. Focus on what YOU WANT to do with the degree and make it work for you.

It all depends upon what city you're looking at. Jobs are scarce for everyone right now, especially new grads with no experience. Good luck!
