How do you record music into vinyl?

Electronic Music: What are some business models for "vinyl first" record labels?

• If one were able to negotiate digital (stream/dl) distribution alongside vinyl distribution, what lag would there be for digital? None or some? Fewer tracks for streaming, more tracks on physical release? Would be curious to learn of some examples of how labels have approached this over the past two years or so. I'm to a lesser extent interested in answers related to packaging and presentation of records, and really mostly interested in physical scheduling in relation to digital, content differences and sharing of digital promos.

  This is based upon being a record buyer for about 15 years, digital download buyer for about 10, DJ'ing in clubs and bars regularly and knowing producers/record label owners. Give a download link for the release away with the vinyl. Not only does this give the listener a version to listen to on the move/computer but the record label could just ask the user to enter their email address to access the download - instant mailing list. A lot of DJ's also collect vinyl but play CD/Traktor Scratch when doing gigs. Airline are very good at losing bags of rare vinyl. Make sure your vinyl has nice artwork, this is a big reason for a lot of people buying vinyl. Leave at least a 2 week gap between vinyl release and digital. Vinyl buyers like to feel special :) DO NOT make your tracks exclusive to Beatport. This just fuels the monopoly that record labels have inadvertently created. Do not press more than 300 copies on your initial run but as soon as you have sold them, repress it. This will stop the money grabbers on Discogs charging $50 for a record that cost $10 3 days ago. YOU WILL NOT MAKE MONEY, so make sure you only release music that you absolutely love - there is enough sh*t out there already Good luck!
