How can I make colored henna tattoo paste?

Should i get a henna tattoo but without the paste. like ink tattoo?

  • I been looking everywhere for real henna tattoos but everyone has had the henna tattoo with the temporary black paste. -.-

  • Answer:

Black henna contains a chemical that can scar your skin, you could also become very sick. Henna is a plant that is crushed in a powder you add lemon juice, sugar, and oil. It will then stain the top layer of your skin a reddish/brown color, and the stain will fade after a few weeks. Always get henna done by someone you can trust who can explain what is in it and how it works.

I would recommend buying your own henna powder to mix. There are recipes all over the web, so see which one works best for you skin and your powder...each harvest results in different effectiveness of the henna in making mehindi so you have to play around a bit to see which combinations of ingredients will work the best. If you go to get a mehindi done (henna is the powder, mehindi is the tattoo) and the ink is black DO NOT GET IT DONE. Henna paste should be dark red or brown if the ingredients used are pure and chemical free. Many artists use black hair dye or PPD to darken the ink but these chemicals can cause SEVERE scaring!

Check out some of the injuries that people have gotten from PPD, and you'll see why you want to avoid it. Unless you want a design that may cause a huge weeping rash that leads to a permanent scar, or long term liver damage.

Henna tattoos are a popular body decoration for children and adults alike. Artists often host booths at fairs where children can step in and get anything from a butterfly to Chinese symbols emblazoned on their body parts. Kits for home use are available at specialty stores and are fairly simple to use. The advantage of henna tattoos is that they offer a temporary bit of tattoo glamor, are painless and wash off within two weeks. The main ingredient in henna is hydroxynaphthaquinone which is obtained from leaves of the Lawsonia tree. Hydroxynaphthaquinone alone is not carcinogenic, but when combined with para-phenylenediamine (PPD) the mixture has been documented as causing problems. PPD is a synthetic dye used to accelerate the drying time of the henna mixture, darkens the overall tattoo and allows for more precise, detailed images. The chemical has been documented to cause severe blisters, skin rashes and scars. In 1979 the US National Cancer Institute labeled PPD as a possible carcinogen due to a high incidence of liver cancer in workers at PPD production plants. Not all henna artists or henna kits use dye with PPD, if the resulting tattoo is an intense dark black and lasts for more than several weeks, it likely contains the undesired ingredient. I Hope that helps! Jared
