The UEFA Champions League (which used to be named and is often called the European Cup) is an annual club football competition organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for the most successful football clubs in Europe. It is one of the most prestigious club trophies in the sport along with South America's Copa Libertadores. It has a global audience of more than a billion people. The tournament was inaugurated in 1955 at the suggestion of the French sports journalist and L'Équipe editor Gabriel Hanot,[1] as a competition for winners of the European national football leagues under the name of the European Cup, but since the 1992–1993 season the competing teams have been the top performing domestic teams of Europe and the tournament has been renamed the UEFA Champions League, though some teams competing have never been champions in their respective countries. The current holder of the UEFA Champions League trophy is F.C.Barcelona who beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Stade de France in St-Denis, Paris on 17 May 2006.The final of the 2006/07 UEFA Cup will be played in Athens on 16 May 2007.Uefa Club cup championship is the Uefa Champions League Itself The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (also known as the European Cup Winners' Cup) was a football club competition contested annually by the most recent winners of all European domestic cup competitions. The cup is one of the many inter-European club competitions that have been organised by UEFA. The first competition was held in the 1960/61 season, and the last in 1998/99. The competition was then abolished to make way for a further expansion to the UEFA Champions League, with domestic cup winners now gaining entry into the UEFA Cup. During its existence, the Cup Winners' Cup was regarded as the second most prestigious European club competition out of the three major tournaments, behind the UEFA Champions League/European Cup and ahead of the UEFA Cup, although many commentators felt the Cup Winners' Cup was the easiest of the three competitions to win. From 1972 onwards, the winner of the tournament would go on to play the winner of the European Cup (later the UEFA Champions League) in the European Super Cup. The Cup Winners' Cup was eventually discontinued mainly due to the expansion of the UEFA Champions League in the late 1990's, and the CWC's Super Cup place was taken by the winner of the UEFA Cup.From its inception until 1994, the competition was known only as the 'European Cup Winners' Cup' - from the 1994/95 season onwards, UEFA officially named the tournament the 'UEFA Cup Winners' Cup'.

UEFA Champions League is the elite competition where the top two clubs from each league in europe compete in a league system initially then a knockout system when down to the last sixteen. The clubs finishing 3rd and 4th have to go through a qualifying stage before entering the main competition. The UEFA Cup is a competition where the losers of the aforementioned qualifying rounds and the teams finishing 4th to 8th in their european leagues compete in a knockout tournament. The UEFA Cup Winners Cup competiton is where each team who has won their domestic cup competition compete in a knockout tournament. I think this is right anyway. :-)
