What happens in the UK if your accountants?
-
What happens in the UK to a company if it's accountants won't sigh off it's accounts. Will the tax man close them down, or do you change accountants?
-
Answer:
It's down to the directors - if the accountants refuse to sign they do not get all of their fee but I have to ask - why will they not sign? Ask another accountant company or ask the accountants what the problem is. All penalties descend upon the directors. HMRC will impose late filling penalties and then start to ask nasty questions.

If accounts are not filed on time with the Registrar of Companies, the directors personally commit an offence and are liable to be fined. So it's not just the tax issue. A bit more detail might help. Is the company of a size legally to require an audit certificate? Are these the company's first accounts?
