What do you think is the key to a successful Marketing/Advertising career?

I'm planning to find a job on the field of Marketing/Advertising. What qualities do you think I definitely must have on this field to be successful?

Answer:
Couple of tips for you that have served me well: 1) Make and keep as many business relationships as possible. The more people you have in your corner the better. 2) Don't yell at people 3) Always look to be on your organizations highest profile projects 4) Be true to your resume. If it doesn't change year to year you are doing something wrong 5) Always look to beat last year's numbers. Even if you fall short of a plan, at least you can say you did better then last year 6) Don't ever follow a legend in a new position. Nobody remembers who followed Lou Gehrig at first base for the Yankees.

I was a retail buyer and one of my suppliers offered me a marketing position. Salesmen who are creative and detail oriented are often asked to join the marketing department. Other than people from high profile MBA programs, very few are able to find a marketing job right out of school. In today's world, it's a big plus to be proficient in a second language.

I'm looking for that answer as well. The ability to take criticism as well as not caring when people tell you no. Creativity is a good one as well.
