Where in Canada should I travel to?

Where does canada get to travel to besides canada? for missions besides Afghanistan?

  • Where are the bases located in the world, and where do they get to do missions besides Afghanistan. Just trying to figure it out because I am a bit confused.

  • Answer:

Contrary to what Karen C said.............. For more than 40 years, from the end of World War Two, to the early 1980's Canada maintained a 10,000 man mechanized armoured brigade and a 5,000 man RCAF aviation wing, in West Germany, as our contribution to the NATO defence force. These were NOT peacekeepers. Their job was to be ready 24 hours a day, to fight a Russian invading force. They were there along with the British, The Belgians, The Dutch, The Brits and the Americans. Facing them were the massed forces of the Warsaw Pact nations, all 22 of them. So, just to set the record straight, Canada DID maintain overseas bases, and I served at 3 of them, during my career in the CF. I was in West Germany on 3 different occasions, as well as 2 rotations in Cyprus ( we were there a total of 29 years ), as apart of the UN mission there. And I was in the Gaza Strip twice, on UN cease fire observation duties. Canadian Forces instructors train many small nations military forces, such as those of Malawi, Jamaica, Bermuda, Tanzania , and Kenya. We also allow officers from those nations to attend our Staff Colleges and technical courses at our various military schools. At this time, Canada does not have any permanent military bases, out side of this country. Khandahar is not a permanent base. Canadian Forces members do serve in other nation's military forces, on a exchange training program. General Rick Hellier, who just retired as the CF's Chief of National Defense Staff ( the top guy in the CF ) was in the past, the second in command of the US Army's 3rd Infantry Divison, in Iraq. Many of our best NCO"s have been on exchange programs , with the British, German, and Australian military forces. Every year, the CF sends about 30 people to the US Army's Ranger school. They win the "best student awards " on a regular basis. Jim B. Toronto.

The Canadian Forces get deployed to Bosnia for the UN peacekeeping mission. I think there are a few officers serving with the British and Americans.
