Actually, I was homeschooled my whole life (kindergarten & 8th grade the only exclusions) and I got a great education. It drives me crazy what people my age don't know (and should have learned during public school). I am in college now, and have a 3.6 GPA. I agree that public schools, especially ones in scary neighborhoods, aren't the best educational option. They have different ways you can do it now, like web-based learning. I think it might be a good idea to check with your mom's friend first, but don't just spring it on your mom, otherwise she may become defensive with her friend.

You've 'heard' bad things about the school you'll be going to. That doesn't sound like a good enough reason. You want a break from school? Really??? I'm sorry, but right now, these don't sound like valid reasons. Your mother says no...why push it?
