What are the pros and cons of home schooling?

  • I recently asked another question about home schooling but I'm still trying to work out if it's for me. Pros and cons? Btw is it expensive?

    Pros: Work at your own pace. Never fail (haha). Choose your own corses and books. Cons: No social interaction with others. You cannot receive many professional opinions. May not challenge yourself enough. Can lead to social awkwardness in kids. As you pay for all your supplies yourself, yes it is expensive. It is not as expensive as sending your child to a private school.

It's a lifestyle, one man's pro is another man's con. It's a matter of what you prefer & what you're willing to put up with in any environment, be it public, private, virtual or homeschooling. What I like about homeschooling is: - flexibility - freedom of schedule - the ability to approach learning in very engaging, hands-on, project & discussion-oriented ways - socialization; I can put my kids in groups & activities that hold them to a higher standard, and give them a better model of behavior (rather than in school where you're stuck with the luck of the draw, and there are as much negative as there is positive things about socializing). - we get to spend more time together as a family that we wouldn't get if they were in school - they're thriving Cons are: - people question your decision - people make stupid assumptions, like they assume you don't leave the house every day or are always alone every day
